Sean sat silently on an old bench within Pendleton Park, wringing his hands together. He was breathing heavily, his head kept low and his eyes downward. Tears were flowing down his cheeks but he did not dare to once look up in case anyone would see.
If he were to raise his head, one would see the deep black eye, the bruises on his cheek, and the blood on the corner of his lips and eye. It was safe to assume that Sean had been beaten, because that was the truth. He did not want to go home for the weekend but he had to; he had a mandatory doctors appointment at home and he had to stay with his parents.
He had run away from the house a day before he was supposed to head back to Hogwarts. He knew people would be looking for him, mainly Roger and Martha. They'd only need him to help with the little drug fest going on. Sick of it, he ran away to Pendleton park; an escape from reality. He had been sleeping on the old rickety bench far off in the park in its secluded area.
Roger and Martha had sent letters out, searching for Sean, and even sent out a harsh letter to Jack. They told the headmistress of Hogwarts that they were highly concerned for their son's safety- but most people knew this was a lie. Sean silently cried and rocked himself back and forth, not wanting to deal with this anymore.

Jack was furiously upset as he walked to Pendleton Park. He and Sean had been through so much now that he felt he could pin-point him anywhere. The letter from his parents had rattled him; the reaction of the staff upon receiving a different letter even more. How could they be so blind? He had openly admitted to them numerous times that they lived in an abusive home and each time his parents weasled their way out of it in craftier yet less-believable ways.
And how long had Jack been telling Sean to just get out and stay with him?
He balled his fists at his sides as he walked, brow furrowed deeply. He knew this time would be no different: he would count the new bruises, Sean would say it was nothing, he would tell him to stop hoping and just stay with him (most likely yelling by now), and Sean would be hurt by either his voice or the truth behind his words and run off farther or...
"Or what," Jack grumbled. "Try to kill himself, say he doesn't deserve any better." He stopped and passed a hand over his face in aggravation.
What the hell am I supposed to do?
There was a hunched figure on a park bench, alone. Sean. It had to be, who else was as miserable as him? As they were? As their situation was? Jack sighed and squared his shoulders. Time to do the routine, face the music.

Sean fumbled with his fingers still, picking at a strange burn on his hand. With bottom lip trembling, he suddenly pressed down on the burn and winced sharply. He kept doing this though, inflicting pain purposely on himself. Punishment.
He yelped out and shut his eyes sharply, catching his breath. He slowly hummed to himself and curled up on his side on the bench. He pulled his knees to his chest and shut his eyes, hoping to just drift asleep.

Jack watched Sean harm himself as he walked towards him, hurrying a bit faster now. He purposely sat next to him on the bench, fitting on what little space was left and stretched out. "This can't keep going on," he said, looking up at the sky. "Can't keep going on..."
He closed his eyes and swallowed, willing it to rain or do something. "Come back to school with me. Stay with me."

Sean swallowed roughly, still hugging himself. "This can't keep going on," he heard his brother say. He swallowed more, nervous. "J-Jack, they're our parents. No matter what...they're our parents." he whispered.
He felt Jack lay down across of him and he flinched slightly, uncomfortable. "Come back to school with me. Stay with me." Sean growled, rubbing his eyes. "It's not that simple Jack! They are good people...Deep down, somewhere, they are good people trying to come out. Why won't you see that?" he asked, snapping a bit.
He knew this was going to run into the same argument over and over again. "Why did you come here?" he asked, grumbling slightly.

This time would be different. Jack hoped it would be different this time... That the light of reason would shine down on his brother's head and make him understand that this situation was never going to change if they stayed where they were at.
"J-Jack, they're our parents. No matter what...they're our parents."
"No, no, no," Jack said, practically cutting him off. "They aren't parents, they're monsters, Sean. Monsters. Fiends, villains, crooks... Don't you dare call them parents to me. They're not my parents." He was going to start yelling in a second but he didn't care. Set me off, Sean, he glared at him, almost daring him. Go on.
"It's not that simple Jack! They are good people...Deep down, somewhere, they are good people trying to come out. Why won't you see that?" Jack stared at him. He honestly had no words for the rage he was feeling. "Why did you come here?"
"Are you f**k**g kidding me?" He stood up in front of him, running his hands through his hair with trembling hands. "Are you f**k**g shitting me right now? Do you think you're some saint or something? Someone holy who's going to turn them around?" He took his brother's hand, showing him the burn on it. "Good people don't do that," he yelled at him, hazel eyes dark with intensity. "Good people don't f*** you up!"

Sean clenched his hands in fists, "Don't start insulting me in all of this!" he hissed, pulling his hand back quickly. He was irritated with the way Jack spoke to him all the time. His comment had hurt him.
"When have I ever played off being a saint?" he growled. He sat up harshly, tapping his foot hurriedly. "Is there anything else I can help you with or do you have more harsh insults directed for me?" he said, shaking his head.
It was his curse, he always tried to look for the best in people, even if those people beat him to a pulp every visit. He wiped at his eyes where it had begun to bleed again.

Sean growled and pulled his hand back. Jack glared at him still and crossed his arms. "Don't start insulting me in all of this!" He rolled his eyes and snorted, turning from his brother and walked in a slow circle to gather his wits. "You're missing my d**n point..."
"When have I ever played off being a saint?" Sean sat up and growled as Jack turned to face him once more. "Is there anything else I can help you with or do you have more harsh insults directed for me?"
Jack leaned in close so they were almost nose to nose. "Yeah, if you don't mind, there is one thing you could do for me after you're finished with your little trip to make-believe land," he growled lowly. "Get the f*** out of there. Go. I don't care whether you stay with me or you stay at the school or you move to shitting Idaho. Get out of there. Only if you'd be so kind," he added politely, more snap in his tone than ever.
He straightened back up and started to walk away.

Sean listened to all of his words intently and then frowned when Jack walked away. "Y-Yeah...d-do what everyone else has always done...J-Just walked away..." he whispered. This was suddenly a new route.
He wasn't screaming, he wasn't yelling, he was beating himself up. He turned and pushed on the burn again harshly. He yelped to himself. "Fine, just leave." he repeated. He turned and began walking off, loss in his eyes.
He looked like a child who had just lost his dog. He looked entirely heart broken. As he walked, he continuously pressed on his wounds, swallowing his pain more and more.

Jack was a ways ahead so he only caught the tail end of Sean's words. "... J-Just leave..."
I will, he thought angrily. I will. I'll make myself a life and you can keep doing whatever it is you're doing. Being blind. He couldn't understand how Sean could be so accepting of their parents' behavior. Not exactly accepting... but willing, hopeful. God, who even knew anymore.
As he thought his anger started to settle and he was left with sharp regret, pungent as burnt rubber. He stopped and sighed heavily, turning his face towards the sky. "nuts, d**n, f***, piss, crap, motherfuck, poop on a stick," he muttered as he turned on his heel and walked back they way he had come.
He had forgotten about the second round after the first routine had been done. This was where he apologized, told Sean he was just trying to look out for him blah blah blah... "Like it's going to make a difference," he grumbled, following his brother's lost figure.

Sean reached a payphone and shakily got onto the phone. Biting his lip, he dialed Roger's phone, shaking more as he did so. The phone rang and rang and finally, his greatest fear answered.
"D-Dad...I'm in Pendleton P-Park...I want to go home...A-And I'm not leaving this time." he said into the phone. He hung up the phone, knowing that Roger would be speeding on his way. He then walked to the main road and sat on the edge of the highway, waiting.
He was trembling and kept his head low, depression setting in. It was pretty blatant and obvious what he was thinking; he wanted to die. He knew this would be granted by returning home. He wished he'd never see Jack again, ever.

Jack frowned at the ground as he walked towards where he thought his brother was going, shoving his hands in his pockets. He hated how even though he was trying to help his brother out he had somehow become the bad guy. He sighed a few times and shook out his hair as he tried to calm down enough to not think negatively.
Sean was sitting alone on a curb by the street. Jack stood behind him with a sigh, his shins against his brother's back. "Look, I'm sorry, okay," he said still a bit tensely. "But you gotta understand, Sean... Please just try for a second. You can't go back there. Not with what they do."
He rubbed his face and looked away down the street. "I'm not the best communicator, I know... And I'm moody and pissy, but even though I say all this stuff I won't ever stop loving you. And I want you to be safe."

Sean kept his head down, still inflicting pain on that one burn. He did not make any movement whatsoever to look or even acknowledge Jack's presence in any way. He felt droplets of rain begin to fall.
He slowly put his hood on over his head, hiding his face even more. He no longer looked like happy Sean who loved swimming, hiking, and hanging out with his big brother. He was no longer the Sean who always smiled. He was a missing person, a lost puzzle piece.
He took a while and finally spoke, "Jack...Roger is coming, I'm going with them...and I'm not leaving this time." he said, voice strangely dark and cold, but nearly sounding emotionless.

Sean said nothing for a long while. Jack played with his long sleeves over his arms, wondering if he had even heard him. He opened his mouth to ask him when his brother surprised him.
"Jack...Roger is coming, I'm going with them...and I'm not leaving this time."
At first cold fury rushed through Jack's veins. What the hell was Sean thinking?! Was he suicidal? He certainly didn't want this, to be with those hideous creatures... The fury was slowly replaced by an overwhelming sadness. Tears pricked Jack's vision as he stared at the back of Sean's hoodie. "You're leaving me?" He asked, sounding incredibly heartbroken and squeaky, not like himself at all.
He shivered, wrapping his arms around his sides loosely. The fact that Sean would rather be with Roger stung more than anything.
Roger. Roger coming here. Now.
Fear gripped Jack lastly, making him tremble against his brother. Roger, the main source of their grief, was coming here right now most likely drunk as a sailor and doing seventy of the highway.
"I'm coming with you then," Jack said shakily, sitting next to his brother.

Sean stayed cold, emotionless. Once Jack sat down, Sean still did not move. He waited, never once looking over at his big brother. He was pale, still, blank expression in his eyes. He mechanically got up when he saw the familiar yellow rusted van, speeding. As usual.
The back door slid open and Sean walked inside, head low. He did not tremble in fear whatsoever, accepting death entirely. He was a lost soul.
